After upgrading from BE2012SP4, I've noticed that all of our backups are about 15-25% slower. This is to an LTO6 library over a gigabit network. The most noticeable performance impact has been our file server backups, which are millions of small files (1MB Avg.)
The backup environment hasn't changed at all aside from the BE upgrade

i'm trying to backup several databases from another server with backup exec 2010 r3. interestingly, it works for all databases, except one.it was already running, but then out of nowhere, it stopped. the one that doesn't work is the largest one, so i thought the most likely problem is space, but after looking through the disks i assume that this should be alright. The exact error is:

the error windows also says:
End tag 'machine' does not match the start tag 'sql_dbcc_group'.

the database is a SQL 2008 R2, SP1
the sql log file shows following error:

the assignment of permission should be fine, it works on the other databases. i already reassignet the sqlvdi.dll files with regsvr32. i don't think it makes a difference if i use the advanced open file option.
what could be the problem?

I’m in desperate need of help. I will begin with brief explanation of the issue I’m facing and I’m sure one of you geniuses has an answer to this.
I have backup exec 9.1 installed on server 2003 x32 SP2. What I’m trying to do is restore some of the older tapes with BE 9.1. I can inventory the tapes but when i try to run the catalog it just runs for hours without any errors. I inherited this server and have no experience with this software as we don’t use this anymore.
I believe at one point our company was using BE 8 and then upgraded to BE 9.1 and i think this is where the issue is. BE 9.1 for some reason can’t catalog the tapes. Since i have very minimal experience with this product i don’t know where to start.
All i want to do is pull the data off of the old tapes that may have been written in different version of the BE Veritas and restore it to a local driver. Once the data is re-stored i will use NTbackup to back the data to the LTO 5 tapes.
Can someone please help me out here? I would really appreciate it.

I need to free up disk space on my backup system.(Backup exec 2012, exchange 2007 storage groups backup)
I thought I understood the rules that backupexec uses to free up disk space, but it does not work as expected.
I have a Backup to disk then to Tape setup, the idea is that after a new full backup all Data of the last full backup and its incrementals depending on will be deleted while the backups on the Tapes stay!
But Backupexec only delets the last incremental immediately before the new full backup, everything else stays on disk. See the the picture.
As you can see, the Data before the last full backup is expired and should be deleted.
How to setup this?

It appears (in others posts) that using Data Domain appliances with Netbackup requires the NB Advanced Disk licence, but when reading through the EMC docs on DD Boost for OST administartion, there's no mention of it. The only requirement is that the OST plugin be installed on the NB server, without any additional licencing. Am I mistaken or am I missing something obvious? I'm preparing to use our DD appliance which for now only uses simple NFS mounts on our media servers. Certainly this is not making use of DD to half of its potential, but for now I'm a little lost as to what the next step should be to move this DD into full production?

Randomely, my Backup Exec job hangs... The status is "running" , the job rate doesnt drop..I see 4320MB/min but the job is running since the last 3 days.
NormallyIt should take 2-3 hours to run.
It happens when I run VMware Incremental Backup, cancelling the job doesnt work, the GUI doesnt respond to my command..and I waited hours.
Stopping servies doesnt work either. I have to kill the process and restart the service.
I didnt have this issue with Backup Exec 2012. Sounds like an error condition that BE doesnt handle properly.
Just a quick question - does Backup Exec 2010 SP3 support Windows Server 2012 R2 or just Windows Server 2012? If not are there plans for this support or would I have to upgrade to 2014?

We just moved our files to a new server and had to keep that name and IP - which means we renamed and changed the IP of our old server running BE ver. 12.5 (64bit).
I'm looking for best practice to get current install of BE to run by either making changes to server (registry) or reinstalling, or better option.

Does the source and destination have to completely match when using SAN transport method? or can some different versions / block sizes work ?

Attempting to connect to my Exec 2012 (version 14.01798.1364) instance fails with "Could not connect to net.tcp://<IP>:50104/BEMService/ServerData. TCP error code 10060" I checked and ensured that the firewall ports seem to be open fine. When I do a "netsat -np TCP | Find "50104"" I only see the loopback 127.0.0.1 listening, not the production IP listening. The server is up and running, the services are all okay. This is my first install of the remote console. I have not utilized it in my environment before. Any thoughts?

- IBM X3650 Rackmount Server
- HP H221 SAS HBA Controller (shows in device manager)

I have recently installed HP H221 HBA Card on an IBM X3650 Server running Windows 208 R2. The HBA is then directly connected to the Tape Autoloader/Library via a SAS Cable.
The HBA is detected and displayed in the device manager.
However there are no Unknown Device or Medium Changer listed in the device manager to reflect the Tape Drive.
The Autoloader mode is Automatic (I have tried setting it to random with no luck)
The Drive and the server have been rebooted multiple times but the Tape Drive is still not showing up in the Device Manager.
Can somebody please advise what is going on ?

- NTFS deduplication volumes may be backed up to BasicDisk storage units only
Does this mean that when I backup the data, I can't send it to an MSDP pool?

The online help and manual both suggest it is possible to rename the robotic library partitions, However, when I follow the instructions given, I cannot edit the existing partition name field and there is no "apply" button either.
Can someone please advice? Any help is appreciated.

I had to reinstall my OS that is Windows 8.1 Pro, 32 bit and therefore reinstall all my software including SSR 2013, version 11.0.2. and I do get the following error messages trying to create a backup of a partiton.
Error E4F3000E: Snapshot failure while using Volume Shadow Copy Service.
VSS errors:
Error code: vss_e_provider_veto (-2147212538)
(UMI:V-281-1267-14). Before my reinstall SSR did work perfectly. I send some screen shots and did run the "vssadmin list providers" and only Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider was listed.

Hoping someone out there can clear some muddy waters for me.
I have NetBackup 7.5.0.7 master/media/client environment which I use to backup Enterprise Vault 9.0.5 Open Partitions with. The Open Partitions reside in CIFS shares on Netapp running 7 Mode.
When backing up the Open Partitions using the EV Agent backups are dismally slow - barely breaking the 1Mb/sec mark. It doesn't seem to matter where the backups are run to either. I may gain some speed but not enough to make a noticeable difference.
I backup the Closed Partitions using NDMP and see speeds of over 50Mb/Sec.
Can someone tell me why the EV Agent backups run so slowly?
I do not need an alternative solution as I am aware the alternatives. I just want to know why the EV Agent backups are so slow.

I am using SSR 2013 on my PC (using Window 7) and cannot get the Offsite Copy feature to work. Currently, my main backup is to an external Western Digital Mybook drive connected by USB to the PC. I have the SSR set to create a new full recovery point every month, and an incremental backup every evening. In the settings for the backup job, I have selected the Offsite Copy option. The destination for the Offsite Copy is another Western Digital Mybook also connected to the PC by USB (labelled as the G Drive). Every evening, the SSR does copy some files to the G Drive, but with many problems: (1) when I try browsing the files on the G Drive, SSR give me an error message that says "ERROR ED800012: The internal structure of the recovery point file (Last File Frame) is invalid, damaged or unsupported" ; (2) the total file size of the backup on the G Drive is about half the file size that is being copied; and (3) the files on the G drive include those from the "C" drive on my PC but not the "D" drive on my PC (a logical partition). None of these problems exist on the SSR backup job on the main backup drive. I had assumed that the Offsite Copy would be essentially the same file as on my primary backup device, but it is not. If someone can direct me to the right resource to research this problem I would appreciate it.
Seen similar posts a couple times but with no solutions ofered, so here goes again. This worked fine in BU Exec 2012, this is a new problem after upgrading to BU Exec 2014.
Weekly Full back up Server 2012 deduplicated file server volume works as expected, 1TB of data.
Daily incremental backups are massive, after 2 days has now gone over 1TB which is impossible. (BU2012 these were usually around 15GB).
BUE 2014 v14.1.1786.0 upgraded over 2012 no problem. Problem doesnt exist with incremental backup of other non-deduplicated volumes.
Backup method is: modified date
Destination: LTO4
AOFO: yes. MS VSS
Job log messages:
"The Windows Change Journal is unavailable or incomplete. This resource will be backed up without using the Windows Change Journal."
"The volume \\fileserver1\F: is configured as a deduplication volume in Windows. Backup Exec will back up the files in their original, non-deduplicated format instead of in Microsoft's deduplicated format."
