Backup re-run if system was turned off

I need a solution

Hi,

I need some clarification of the following situation:

If the Virtual Machine where NetBackup Master and Media server located (on same server) is power off on the day  that the Monthly Full backup is scheduled to run, will NetBackup is smart enough to run the Monthly Full backup after the VM is being turned off 1 or 2 days later?

If Not, would turning on "Allow retries after runday" helps" ?

Note, I know ideally to leave system on 24/7 but it is not the case we can control over our clients.

Hope I can get some advice.

- 1 windows 2008 server as a backup station installed Symantec backup
-I n the above server installed 2 different LTO, LTO4 and LTO5 another

How to deactivate and activate the backup policy using scheduler

Hi All,

Master server : Windows 2003

Policy Type : Oracle Database

I have a one request to deactivate the policy for specific time. Is there any way to deactivate it for two days using scheduler.

I use to deactivate the policy and activate manually again after specific time. but sometimes we forget to activate it. So looking for automatic process.

Please help me if we have any solution.

Unable to update to SP5?

Hello All,

 

I am using Symatec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010, on windows server 2008 R2.  I downloaded the following patch, "Symantec_Backup_Exec_System_Recovery_9.0_SP5_Patch" since my version seems to be out of date.  When I ran the executable I am prompted with the following error message;

 

The upgrade pathc cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade pathc may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.

 

Well, I have verified the program does exists, since I can access BESR and my backups are running per schedule.  I confirmed via another topic that this is the correct patch.  I am now at a loss..?  Any help would be great.  Reason to me wanting to update to SP5 is because I am having issues attempting to mount a large recovery point, and per my search on the forums this SP5 update should fix it..

Encryption for Dedup storage.

This is basically my question/concern when it comes to the "fixed" key encryption that article talked about:

Does this mean all BackupExec products share the same encryption key? Here is a scenario to better explain my question:

An attacker gains access to our deduplication folder, but not to our Backup Exec server, could this attacker, in theory, just spin up a brand new Backup Exec instance on their own, purchased or otherwise, and connect to our deduplication folder, and from their decrypt, view/read/recover the backup data housed in that folder?

This, of course, is an unlikely scenario but one I want to know I am protected against. If this is the case it won't be a concern for us, we will just add another layer of encryption protection (one that is FIPS compliant) on the deduplication storage outside of Backup Exec embedded encryption.

Installationsproblem bei Backup Exec 11d auf SBS2008

Hallo zusammen,

auf einem SBS2008 lief seit Jahren Backup Exec 11d einwandfrei. Nun ist der Server komplett gecrasht und ich darf die letzte Sicherung zurück holen. Ein individuelle Restore-Medium wurde damals nicht erstellt.

Nun habe ich SBS2008 frisch installiert und möchte Backup Exec 11d wieder installieren. Allerdings ist die Option "Install Backup Exec-software and options" ausgegraut und ich kann mit der Installation nicht fortfahren.

UAC ist deaktiviert und die Installation läuft im Kontext des ursprünglichen Admin-Benutzers. Wer kann helfen? Dankeschön!

Im planing on upgrading toda a MASTER/MEDIA server on Windows and a Solaris Client with Oracle agent, so my question is:

 

What is the correct way to upgrade the client?

Should I re-run the nbu script for RMAN?

Whitch should be the state of the DB while Im upgrading the client?

good afternoon dear,
I just made the migration DLO version 7.0 to 7.5 using the procedures in this way:
7.5 SDLO run the installer on the server, then install the defaults and update SDLO administration console. Once this was done, I made the deployed DLO Agent to client computers and then add the SDO 7.5 licenses.

and everything was installed successfully. dlo to the agent.
however when I open the DLO agent of a laptop user opens the agent.

my question is is that something is missing modoficar me and set in the installation.

  you need to add and configure the Dedupe and q have the DLO server are configured properly for storage.

Unable to access OpsCenter remote web console after upgrade to 7.6.0.2

I need a solution

Hi all, 

Just upgraded our OpsCenter (Windows) from v7.5.0.6 to v7.6.0.2.

I can access to webgui locally when logged onto the server, but now cannot connect remotely - "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

- I have recreated the webapps folder as per TECH206842 > still cannot access the web console remotely.

- Have also tried via IP - https://10.xx.xx..xx/opscenter> No go.

- Web server logs are not giving me any info.

 

Any ideas?

Media server is in central company , far away state has a remote site ..how to control the backup administraton

without pass thorugh the media server , as remote side has a nas and server backup installed agent.

 

can the backup data dont pass thourh central 's media server directly backup ? thx

Vmware restore speeds

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

hi all

im trying to gather some figures on what speeds others are seeing when  restoring a Vmware server using 7.5/7.6

i know it depends on what methods and underlying infrastructure but id just like to know what speeds other people see

eg we get a restore speed of around 20 to 25MBps when restoring VMware servers via SAN method and 10-15 when restoring NBD

doesnt matter is its from disk or tape, the media server is our backup host and the LUNS are all presented to it

Media server is HP DL385 G8 connect to SAN via fibre

when we do agent restores for eg DB2 or files we can get around 70MBps

From my intial findings im begining to feel this is more a limitation or restriction with VMware rather than Netbackup

About Deduplication in netbackup

I need a solution

We have planned to keep our monthly and yearly backups in to disk. Planning to use netbackup MSDP. Our current backup size is 10TB. Every month full bakcup and 1year retention. My question is first time it will be 10TB and second month will it take dedupe data and keep it for 12months or it will take entire 10TB plus additional changes (say example 200GB changes as every month)10.2TB and keep it for 12 months.If its 10.2 tb means means my total space will be10.2 * 12 = 122.4TB.

Command line to check files backed up

I need a solution

Hi Friends,

I am new to Netbackup. I did a manual backup as requested and I want to put the information of files backed up and the retention in the ticket as text. if I go to the admin gui and try to do a restore of the files backed up, I see the files but not the retention.

Is there any command line command which will display the files names & retention which are backed up.

NetBackup accelerator policy validation failed

Hi, we are helping a customer to setup accelerator policy. The customer's master server is NBU 7.5.0.7 on Windows Server 2008 R2. When we created the policy to use accelerator in Windows Remote Administration Console, it shows some error message similar to the one below:

To use the accelerator, select storage units from supported storage server:

PureDisk Deduplication (PDDO), Media Server Deduplication (MSDP), Symantec clouds, and other qualified storage servers. 

Currently configured and supported storage servers are:

PureDisk on <servername>

 

I did some research and find there is Symnatec KB which talks about this:

In our case, we tried to run Windows Remote Administration Console from both master and media servers (media servers are also NBU 7.5.0.7 on Windows Server 2008 R2) but got the same error.

My question is: besides try Java Console, are there any other ways to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Backup Exec 2014 - Backup Exec Job Engine Crashing Exception code 0xc0000005.

Hi

I have just upgraded our backup exec from 2010 to 2014 - quite a big jump. Mostly it has gone fine.

However the Job Engine is crashing. Daily I have 4 backup jobs running, 1730hrs, 1830hrs, 2000hrs and 2300hrs. The first two overlap by fifteen minutes at the end and the second two are large backups which overlap, the 2000hrs finishes about 0630hrs and the 2300hrs one finished about 0730hrs.

The first three backups run fine but the fourth fails as the Job Engine service crashes. The last time it crashed at 0638hrs.

The event viewer shows

A process crash has been detected.

Faulting application: bengine.exe 14.1.1786.0
Faulting module: segodbc.dll 14.1.1786.0
Fault offset     0xebf0
Exception code 0xc0000005.

 

I have attached the crash dump to this post.

 

Anybody an idea why this happened ?

I need a solution

Problem : Running MS SQL backups from a third party scheduler (MS SQL Scheduler) with no hard coding of user ID or password refuses to use the NBU SQL userID and password in the windows registry.

Anybody found a better solution than what we have found to date?

So far found:

  • It doesn't work and the use of the "encrypted file" appears to be a myth.  There seems to be no recent documentation on this encrypted file creation and usage. So far support have recommend TECH5647 as the solution.
  • Making the SQL user that NBU has in the registry with its encrypted password a local admin will work.  For security reasons this is not a desirable solution.  The NBU SQL user is set as a SQL admin on the box and in AD.  
  • Making the SQL backup user have read access to:

              -- The registry location where the NBU user ID and password is kept +

              -- The location where the BCH file is kept

              -- NBU install area. Suspect it may require write access to the NBU log area.       

 

TECH5647

In document TECH5647 it describes "By omitting the userID and passwords from the batch file, you can ensure that NetBackup for SQL Server will read the default parameters from an encrypted login file" and that file can be found under  install_path\DbExt\Mssql\Logins\ when you followed the procedure described in the tech note. 

That tech note is 14 years old and probably every related document, including the current manual, refers to the "encrypted file" without any explanation.  Looks like the modern version of NBU doesn't create that file and probably 14 years ago didn't use the registry as a location to store the encrypted user ID and password.

I am planning for Netbackup version upgrade from 7.5 to 7.6.

Do i require any additional license other than the existing license keys?

I think upgrade license key has to be provided by Vendor, but I'm not sure.

Kindly provide your inputs.

database migration sql express to sql 2008 R2

I have installed backup exec 2012 on which works with a sql database express, the problem is that you quickly fill your data that exceeds 4 GB,
the need I have is to make the migration of database sql express database to sql 2008 R2 since it has licensed.
my question is there will be a process of good practice for such migration

Currently I have configured a storage TS2900 disk that supports the backup backup exec 2012, but has acquired a 2500 DataDomain more storage.

how do I add the domain to data storage 2500 TS2900 or replace the existing one.
