Backup Image FORCE_RESTORE option is failing for basic disk STU

I need a solution

Hi

I have a media server name XYZ which is having Basic Disk STU - /mount1

I had taken the backup through that Media server., & it was successful.

While restoring I tried to restore it via Master server ABC - but it is failing with 83 error code.,

Is it possible to add the master server entry in the Basic disk STU ?? ANy idea

Since when am restoring via backup taken media server then it is getting sucessful/.,

Any idea how to restore the basic disk images from alternate Master/Media Servers?

Hi,

I had installed window server 2012 r2 standard and exchange 2013 sp1. I also have install backup exec 2014 with dowmain user accout which have Administrator of Mailbox server. Then I try to backup but information store doesnt retrieve. did i miss setting something. I need somebody to help me.

Netbackup policy configuration

I need a solution

Hi ,

Currently i configured a policy with 4 user backup schedules , one for full backup to tape and one for full backup to disk and also one incremental to tape and one incremental to disk .

i configured these schedules because the netbackup server is 1GE while the Enterprise client is 10GE so i make the tape backup from the master server and the disk backup from the enterprise client to nas storage mounted at the enerprise client .

when i run backup from the client , it choose automatically the first schedule in the list " full backup to tape " and didn't run the other schedule .

the question here how can i run all the schedules automatically when i initiate the backup from the client ?

The Byte Count in job log

In BE2010, I can see the Byte Count in job history -> set detail information for every backup servers/drive

In BE2014, I can only see the total count , cannot see by count in details for each drive. Is it normal?

In BE2010, we can restart backup exec services of MMS in CAS by clicking menu Media servers -> Backup Exec Services

where can we find it in BE2014?

High and low watermark

I need a solution

Hello Experts,

I need to check the basic watermark functionality with my NAS storage device using NBU. I have a filesystem to test (say 2 Gb). 

i have created a storage unit with CIFS UNC path and set the high watermark to 70% and low watermark to 30%.

I have also enabled temporary staging area and have given final detination as a diff storage unit. (not sure about staging part though)

i backed up 1Gb data and then again 1.5 gb of data. Howver, backup fails with the error "Disk storage unit is full(129)".

Can anyone explain why this error as when the value will reach to highest watermark , it should expire the images of the backup which has moved to final location.

Am i missing something obvious??

Any leads are welcomed.

Disk Type: Basic Disk

NBU: 7.6 

NBU Master: Windows 2008

Hi,

I'm Oracle DBA which tries to prepare policies and scripts for NBU (7.6) to backup 2 node Oracle RAC databases. In documentation http://spaldam.com/NetBackup7xPDFs/NetBackup_Admin... in Appendix B I find nice description for different scenarios in that matter. But unfortunatly I don't understand few things and I want to ask for some clarification for "The NetBackup master server configuration must allow the physical host names access to all of the backup images" (page 204)

My master server is on Windows and in "C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\db" there is no "altnames" folder. Should I create that folder and create inside file "hostname1" ... eg. "dbserver1"?

I know difference between hostname, and vipname in Oracle RAC, but I don't understand what Veritas has in mind by "failover_vipname". Can anyone clarify for me what is "failover_vipname" (Is this SCAN)? What address should I put in my dbserver1 file?

Which client (or clients) should I add in my policy definition?

BE 2014 and Exchange 2010

I need a solution

Hi there

I have a memory leak issue with BE 2014 running a backup on my Exchange server. It ran fine when I was using BE 2010, but since I moved to BE 2014, it consumes memory and the Exchange mailboxes become unavailable, I have to stop the BE remote service to get Exchange functioning again. Has anyone else witnessed this with Exchange?

Agent Backup Exec for Linux doesn't see database instance

I have 2 instances on server. But backup exec see only one. And i can't to configure second instance to backup. 

Configuring the Oracle Agent

     1. Add a new Oracle instance to protect
     2. Edit an existing Oracle instance
     3. Delete an existing Oracle instance
     4. View Oracle instance entries that have been added in the Remote Agent Utility

maximum partially filled media - another "why is this is"

hi all,

I see this topic comes up from time to time but I also see that there supposadly was in the works the ability to override the EOM in order to force spanning I guess (in order to fill partially full active media). We are running 7.5.0.7, Solaris master, single RHEL media server with 5 LTO5 drives, and the pool Offsite-1mo is set to 1 partially fill media yet on any given day there is always 3-4 partially full tapes. The reason this irks me is we vault daily and I am consuming at least 2x more media than should be.

I've checked the basics - all drive types are the same, no mixed retentions of anything using that pool, and only 1 media agent. Media sharing is not enabled. It doesn't matter what I set the limit to for this pool (and another BTW), it just goes and pulls in new tapes from scratch every day leaving us needing to vault partially filled tapes all the time.

What is the secret to force it to fill those tapes before pulling in new from scratch?

Hello!

I think I ran under situation explained here: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH74570.html but I can't find the key information I need: What is the correct permission to grant to my service account to prevent this situation.

Let me explain the situation in a few words:

I have a Windows cluster with 3 clustered SQL Server (2008R2) and NetBackup 7.6.0.4 (LAN and SAN mode)
Each SQL Server runs under a specific service account: Let call them "sa_instance_a", "sa_instance_b" and "sa_instance_b"
"NetBackup Client Service" and "NetBackup SAN Client Fibre Transport Services" run under another service account : "sa_netbackup"

Concerning the configuration, 2/3 of my SQL Server are backed up through LAN and the last one through SAN. There is no problem with the LAN one's, I can backup them with my personnal account (which is part of computer's administrators)

With the one that is backed up through SAN, I can't backup or restore (using the "NetBackup MS SQL Client") if I don't use the specific service account "sa_netbackup". Using this account is not a pretty solution for me since it could be used by a lot of people. I would prefer that they use their "usual" account like they do for the instance backed up through LAN.

When I read the technote, I thought that would be the solution but I can't find what permission should be granted to which service account.

The error I get is: "<4> handshake: Not a candidate for alternate buffer method because the NetBackup client service account does not match the account used for launching the backup".

Setting up separate test DLO server

Hi

I want to upgrade our current DLO console and agents to version 7.6. Before I do this, I would like to set up a test server (TestDLO) that would replicate our current server (LiveDLO) and carry out an upgrade on this server (TestDLO) with about 30 users as a test.

I have created a clone of LiveDLO, which has a different server name (TestDLO), but everything else is the same as LiveDLO. That is, all DB and pointers point to LiveDLO. Is there a way of changing the pointers on TestDLO so that it does not impact the LiveDLO DB? At the moment any changes I make on TestDLO get replicated on LiveDLO

1. Can you tell me approximately how much time will it take to complete the Catalog Back up ?

We have 2 NBU servers. Find attachments of time differences for Catalog Back ups.

2. Can you tell me the difference b/w Master Server and Media Server.

Running out of drive space DB is huge.

I need a solution

Ever week I have to clean up the logs. which give me about 11 GB to keep everything moving.

This is a windows server master/media, and also has OPcenter running on it.

Server 2008 R2 standard SP1

64Bit

Drive space is 278GB and I am down to 9.43GB.  Yesterday I had it at 11GB.  

Netbackup 7.5.0.6

Will be upgrading once all out 2000 servers are turned off.

I look at the DB Folder in Netbackup "C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\db"

and it is 207GB in size..

Is there a way to clean this up?  Or better yet move it to a different drive?

What about moving the log files to a differet drive.

Any help, suggestions etc would be great.  Thank you.

VMWare backup failed

Hi all,

I'm using Netbackup 7.6.1.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I'm doing backup for virtual machines using vCenter 5.5u2.

Before the issue, Netbackup was 7.5 and VMWare was 5.0u1, since the upgrades i'm facing many backup problems, some backups fails for different reasons, and other hangs (which result in failure of the next planned backup once the schedule window finishes)

We are facing the issue since 1 month and the pressure from the customer is becoming ... you know
