Please give me an idea on how can i effectively and efficiently document all the netbackup system and configuration. Any ideas, suggestions.

My English is not perfect so I apologize in advance for any errors.
I implement Symantec Backup Exec CASO in my organization. I want to ask few questions:
1. Is it possible to assign permissions to the account in the CASO? For example - we have a few retail locations established accounts on CASO. We would like that Global Administrator can log (rem. Adm. Console) to the CASO and was able to create backups for all servers. The local administrator in every loaction should be able to log in (rem. Adm. Console) to the CASO and create backups only for selected servers (his local servers).
2. Is there a possibility for predefining a backup policies (time, frequency, storage etc.) we would like that when we creating a backup task to choose a souce (e.g. VM) and a name of predefined policy, and that was all to create a job. In case of local administrators, it would be the best if we could define, which policies (predefined) can be used by him (without possibility of creating his own policies). Is there such functionality?
3. Is your backup created on CASO may still be visible in the list of tasks to be performed, Backup Exec server? By default, this task does not appear in BE, it’s visible only when it starts to perform.
4. We noticed that when one (kto) creates a backup job for multiple virtual machines, the machines are backed up sequentially, only one backup of the machine at any given time - can it be changed in the settings ??

I Am using backup exec 2010 R3 sp4 version.And i am planning to automate the task for restarting of failed backups via script.Is it Possible using BEMCMD or with use of  other scripting laungaugae might be pearl or powershell.

Hi,

        I'm currently doing some test for a project that the client is going to use NBU with data domain boost. We tried and sucess to backup data to DD boost through NBU, however, I can't establish the connection between NBU server and DD. Even the NBU server is visable to DD, NBU server wouldn't be able to mount the DD and see it on the device manager. 

         Have search the NBU compatibilty matrix on http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH59978 but I couldn't found the compatility of NBU and DDOS.

1) Can someone share the experience of using DDBoost over FC with NBU?

2) We are suspecting this is the compatability issue between NBU and DDOS, would that be a case?

        We are currently testing on Win server 2008 R2 with NBU 7.6.1 and DDOS 5.5.0.1.

When we delete a policy why the related folder under the following path is not deleted.
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/

When we recreate the policy for same server then the old backup calculations come in to picture again.

I need to know the reason for keeping the information under above directory even after deleting a policy

is not there a way (in NetBackup) to present a backup image (of policy type MS-Windows) as a virtual drive - lets say as H: drive on a Windows Media Server?

I see it is not a Netbackup out-of-the box feature, maybe some NSF framework is required..

Just a requirement from one RFP.

Im running BE2014 on my 3600 Appliance. I'm fast running out of space on the inbuild dedup drive space (5.45TB).

Due to physical space constraints in my Comms room, I need to be able to duplicate my backup jobs offsite, so ideally to a dedup cloud storage.

Is there any companies providing this service? I'm struggling to fine anyone.

Wir hatten vor Jahren bereits eine Lösung von BackupExec im Einsatz - diese wurde aber ersetzt.
In der Kalkulation für eine neue Serverstruktur sind wir auch wieder auf der Suche nach einer entsprechenden Sicherungssoftware.

Um nicht mehr zu lizenzieren was wir brauchen hätte ich folgende Fragen

1. Welche Lizenz wird für uns benötigt und
2. werden unsere Vorstellungen von BackupExec unterstützt.

Zu Frage 1:

- Ein Active Directory Server (WinServer 2012 R2 Standard)
- Ein HyperV Server mit mehreren VM Servern (WinServer 2012 R2 Datacenter)

Unsere Vorstellungen:

Unterstützt BackupExec folgende Aufgaben:
1. täglich eine Sicherung auf die lokalen Festplatten
2. Montag bis Freitag eine inkrementelle Kopie der Sicherung auf jeweils eine externe USB 3.0 Festplatten (pro Tag eine Festplatte)
3. Samstags eine Komplettsicherung auf eine weitere externe USB 3.0 Festplatte (Satz aus vier Festplatten)

> Die USB 3.0 Festplatten (Mo-Fr) werden spätenstens nach einem halben Jahr getauscht <
> Eine USB 3.0 Festplatten (Sa) wird pro Monat ins Archiv gelegt <

D.h. es muss im Programm möglich sein die Festplatten dementsprechend einzurichten und zu verwalten - um evtl. auch in der Sicherungssoftware zu recherchieren auf welcher Festplatte sich eine "verlorene" Datei befindet.

Sind unsere Vorstellungen dementsprechend möglich? Und ist es weiterhin möglich nach erfolgreicher Sicherung auf die externe USB 3.0 Festplatten diese vom System zu trennen, da den Austausch ein Mitarbeiter übernimmt der keine Zugriffsberechtigung auf den Backupserver hat.

I have a query regarding zpool compression for performance improvements . Can you please clarify?

Available statistics of the bptm debug logs to the last seven days show serious waits and

delays on daily and weekly duplication jobs. On the "waited for full buffer" side, there are

average delays up to 3 sec. each wait event indicating slow read performance on the

DSSU. On the "waited for empty buffer" side, the values are not critical. To sum up: It

looks like the duplication jobs suffer from slow DSSU reading.

The zpool based file system under  uses compression. Of course, this

setting slows down read and write performance. Furthermore, the current compression

ratio is about 2, thus saving 50% storage.

! should the file system compression should be disabled temporarily in order to check for performance

improvements. If we disable the compression what are the impacts?

i have a stand alone tape drive and after backup finishes i do not want the tape to eject from drive, i want to use for another backup policy and i'm accessing the server remotely. Is there any way to control the eject of the tape after backup finishes?

Getting backup failure with error code 6 as VM machines is effected due to it.
Error says issue in opening snapshot using transport. 
Some people recommend to check LUN mapping or to do vea rescan on media server. I donot have much knowledge on this. 
Kindly help me as a step by step procudure to go through the issue.

So I've spoken to several resellers, and I'm getting different answers from each of them which is extremly frustrating!

Basically all I want to know is I have Several windows 2008 + 2012 Servers as follows:

Server 1 - Backup Server with SQL database

Server 2 - Biometric Server 

Server 3 - Media Server with SQL Database

Server 4 - Access Server with SQL Database

The ones with SQL on obvioulsy need the Applications and Database Agent to backup the database, but do they then also need the Windows Agent to backup the system state OR does the Applications and Database Agent also include the Windows Agent in it?

So do I need the one license, or two for each SQL Server?

Seems like a simple enough question but somehow no one that I've spoken to can answer!!?  Please Help!!!! :)

this is a debian 7.8 client, another SuSE linux client also produces this error... after downgrading to v7.6.0.1 the backup runs fine. I also tried a clean client software installation by deleting /usr/openv/ completely or moving away. 

can anyone tell me whether this is a known error? many other debian linux clients (also debian 7.8) didn't fail and run fine with version v7.6.0.4 ... so I am a little bit confused what is wrong...
