NDMP Backup error: ndmp_data_connect_v3 failed

Hi All,

I have a problem with NDMP Remote Backup of NAS: DELL FS8600. When running the backup this error is displayed in ndmpagent log:

How to tell if a backup is running without console access

I am sure this one is probably pretty easy and I have just never had to address it from this perspective, but say you have a DBA who needs to do some maintenance. I run a full backup for them, but they have no way to know that its done without having access to the console. Is there anything they can do from the client side to that would allow them to see if a backup is running? Basically they could then know once it is done and start their maintenance. My first thought was possibly run bpps -a, but I'm not sure if that would be useful.

Netbackup intefering with SQL Server Backups? Best practice?

We are currently using NetBackup to take VMware "vmdk" backups on a nightly basis. On our SQL Server machines, we need the ability to do 
point-in-time restores, so we need better than nightly backups. We are using the native SQL Server backup functionality to do full backups nightly, and transaction log backups lets say every 5 minutes. When the NetBackup VMware backup kicks off, it appears that the SQL Servers files are quiesced as there are entries made in the SQL Server backup history. These entries are there even though I do NOT have "Enable SQL Server Recovery". Why am I seeing entries for that?

What are the best practices for backing up SQL Server databases in conjunction with NetBackup VMware backups? If I have to restore from a NetBackup backup, how do I ensure SQL Server is not broken in an incosistent state? If I see the backup entries in the SQL backup history, does that mean that SQL Server will be up and running when the recovery to that point is complete? Or will I be forced to do a manual restore of every database from my native SQL backups? I'll have more questions to follow as this discussion goes on. I'm sure there are a few people out there that are interested in this topic.

Attached is a screenshot showing when the native SQL Server backup kicked off, and when a Netbackup vmware backup kicked off.

What triggered expiring old backups in backup exec. 2014?

I need a solution

I have client with Backup exec. 2014 SP1 and hotfix 225092.

I thought that hotfix was supposed to fix the software so it would delete expired backups from USB devices.

The client has limited USB disks and I need to delete all backups off the Friday full disk each week.

They are set to only hold on to for 2 days.

When I get on the storage and check the backup sets they all say expired.

If I manually force a expire of one of them the rest go away also.

So it is like it does not trigger it so it can clear them out.

I am sure I have left it in to see if when it starts the next Friday backup if it deletes them then and it does not.

I see there is a SP2 available has anyone had any issues with it and does it help this?

I have problem with one restore, others restore run well.

The error is

Days ago the server who made the backup was crashed, and for migrations reason, this server will no be reconstructed.
We move all the virtual tapes to another library and now we need to restore some information for this backup.
I try to restore to another destination, server and directory, and the error is the same.
 
What is happen?

I need a solution

I am using Dell Powevault T2000 library. During weekly full backup we are facing issue many times. When user dump large amount of file/DB on server, backup size getting increased due to which backup tape got full. In standalone tape drive when we insert another blank tape, backup get continue but in library when we move another blank tape into that particular slot using library management console, backup  getting into Queued with alert msg - "Please insert overwritable media into the robotic library using the import command."

Hi All

Need some assistance in troubleshooting slow write speeds using my HP Ultrium LTO-3. My setup as follows.....

Supermicro server

2 X Xeon 2.0ghz processors

32gig ram

Server 2008 R2

Backup Exec 2012 SP1

HP Ultrium LTO-3 SCSI

LSI Ultra320 SCSI Adapter

My write speed has not been over 120mb /min, I know this drive is capable over 1000mb/min? Have tried using Symantec and HP drivers to no avail?

Any assiatnce would be greatly appreciated.

I have notice to a weird behaver which is also hard to explain.

My Policy is to to back-up files on change, the interval is set to 1 hour.

of 15 users, it works, 3 users it does not.

All i see for this 3 users for the past 7 days

is this 3 events

for other user, I can see that there are stuff beeing backed-up, now, if i restart the server, for this 3 users the backups works properly. but i have to restart the server, I do shutdown-turnon the server daily at night due to the backup of the DLO folders(full server backup)

I have also noticed that that under personal selection page(personal backups of pcs) the whole include/exlude tab is buggy, for instance, i backup both C:\DEV and D:\DEV, if i add one exclude for some reason i see the exclude from c also appear in D - some of them

if i delete the backup selection itself, sometimes it does not delete. so weird.

I do not care about the buggy behaver but only about this 3 clients, deleting / rea-adding them is not a solution.

Question:

If I have a Master server that’s has Win2008r2 installed along with some current Win2008r2 media serves. Are there any restrictions to the type of media servers I can have in my environment? I’m looking to deploy a couple of Win 2012 media servers and was told that mixed OS was unsupported.

 Hi,

        I am using backup exec 2012 SP4 which is installed on windows server 2008 R2. And i am backup Data server and SQL databases, Backup was working fine but since two weeks it is not backing  up to my deduplicaiton storage drive.It give an Final Error : 0*2000040d-S_TF_NO_TAPE_PRESENT.So, can anybody can help me to find the solution.

Hi,

We are using Symantec Netbackup 7.6.0.4 on Master, Media server as well as in our backup clients. Tfhe backup client with issue is our Oracle Primavera, refer to the details below:

OS Name    Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation
Application: Primavera 6 R8.3
Database: 12c

We are taking online (hot) tream backup. Refer to the attached file for the issue log.

Curerntly I have Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 installed on Windows Server 2012

I have Differential (daily) and Full (weekly) Backup scheduled

Both schedules complete successfully, but my concern is that sometimes on the Differential backup, I get 'This backup set may not contain any data'

and when I check the backup using the backup feature, some folders appear empty, so I get worried when I have to restore from that backup

Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I restore if the folders are empty

Issues With Symantec Recovery Disk

Hi,

I'm having serious problems with the symantec recovery disk.  We are using Symantec System Recovery R2 Management Solution.  PRevious to the R2 upgrade restores were tested using the downloaded recovery disk and everything worked fine now however I cant seem to get a test restore working.

I'm trying to a test restore on a Dell Poweredge 2850 which is running Server 2008 R2.  I've created so many recovery disks I'm going insane.  The first issue I experienced was that the 64bit recovery disk would not boot this server after testing this disk on other servers I logged a call with Symantec who got me to test the disk on a PC and it worked...

So I tried the 32bit disk and it boots properly andf I am able to get to the recovery utility.  So now the main issue I am experiencing is that when I try to do the restore the target drive is always coming us as Invalid.

At first I assumed thta this was because I had created the recovery disk on our management solution server which is a VM so the disk didnt contain the relevant drivers for the server so I went to the server and tried to edit the ISO, but because the server is running a 64 bit OS I cant edit the 32bit recovery disk ISO... I tried editing the 64bit ISO, but that still wont boot.

So next I installed a full version of Symantec system recovery on a Windows 8.1 PC with a different license meaning I didnt have to create the recover disk through the management solution.  Once again only the 32bit disk would boot the server and once again the target drive location comes up as invalid when I try to do the restore.

This time I ran the driver validation tool on the server and it came back as all drivers installed, but I still cant do a restore.  I still cant edit the iso because its a 64 bit server and 32bit ISO.  I've tried adding in the perc 4 raid driver once in the restore environment and that doesnt work.

So now I'm stuck, I cant work out if the problem is driver related, or because the server is built using MBR, but the restore file location is saved on a volume that is GPT.

Replacement of Tape drive shared between multiple media servers - best practises

Hello,

Until recently I was managing NBU environment where the tape drives were shared between 2-3 media servers the most.

When there was a tape replacement needed, I've usually just deleted the old drive and created a new with the same name and the new drive paths. Of course this requires restarting the ltid \ netbackup device manager. This wasn't a big issue given there were not that many media servers and a defined daily maintenance windows.

 

Now I'm working on environment where the tape drives are shared between 15 media servers and there's no daily maintenance window.

What would be the best way (steps) for replacing such drive? Is there a way to avoid ltid \ netbackup device manager restarts on the media servers where the HW path hasn't changed (although the tape drive was changed). 

 

Please advice.

We are using NetBackup 7.6.0.4 and the AD is running on Windows Server 2012.

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I am hoping that someone here has had this issue before and can help me out. I have been trying to figure out what is going on for a while with no luck.

Here is my setup:

Backup Source: NetApp (NetApp Release 8.1.3P1 7-Mode)
Backup Target: HP Autoloader 1/8 Tape Library
Backup Exec 2014 is installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 fully patched

I keep getting the following error on my backup jobs to the Tape Library:

I have another backup job that goes to a Synology NAS that is presented to Backup Exec as an iSCSI target that is working fine with no errors at all. 

Does anyone know what this could be caused by or how I could resolve this issue?
