Hi All,
The Oracle DBA is seeing Oracle logins at 6 hour intervals, throughut the day, for each Oracle SID. Since there are over 100 instances, this is messing up his log. I am suspicious of 'nbdisco' on NetBackup 7.6 client, and wondering...
1. What it's polling frequency for 'nbdisco', and if that can be changed ?
2 Will the "REPORT_CLIENT_DISCOVERIES = FALSE" bp.conf setting disable polling for Oracle instances altogether, or just disable the reporting of instances back to the master (while continueing to poll for them) ?
3. Is there any documentation for 'nbdisco', other than its mention in "NetBackup 7.6 Oracle Admin Guide" pages 53-54 ?
-------------- Configuration --------------
NetBackup 7.6.0.3 (probably Linux based)
NetBackup 7.6.0.3 client on RHEL 6.5.
Oracle 11.2.0.3, 11.2.0.4, 12.1.0.2

Hello guys,
I got confuse about the netbackup deduplication license. Current, our production enviornment running netbackup deduplication options with follow license:
SYMC NETBACKUP ENTERPRISE SERVER 7.0 WIN/LNX/SOLX64 1 SERVER TIER 2 STD LIC
SYMC NETBACKUP DEDUPLICATION OPTION 7.0 XPLAT 1 FRONT END TBYTE STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S
i can found from the admin console the puredisk option license is 1TB. So, what does it means? I can create a deduplication pool equal to 1TB or less (honestly, now we are using over 1TB pool size)? or the client backup data can not bigger than 1TB? If i am planning upgrade Netbackup with deduplication from 7.0 to 7.6 with 5TB deplulcation pool .Which licensing i need to renew/purchase? also the quantity. Thanks.

I have a Backup Exec 2014 SP2 media servers and I have Microsoft Hyper-V 2012.
I have a VM that installed Windows server 2003 x64 SP2 with MS SQL 2005 SP4. I installed BE remote agent to the VM and I can see all SQL resources under the VM. When I backup this VM and enable SQL GRT. The job is completed successfully but I only see the drives under the VM and can't see any SQL resources.
Hello.
By default, Symantec Backup Exec 2014 as instance database repositor using SQL Express 2008 R2 SP2 (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/library/BUSINESS/xCL/TECH217478/be_2014_scl.html).
Can I use an instance database repositor - MSSQL Server 2012 Enterpise Edition?
Hi All,
We were experiencing two times the cluster database corrupted causing one node cannot join the cluster anymore on Windows 2008 R2. Both happened when NetBackup running the system stat/shadow copy comp.
Anyone has this experience before?

Agent Configuration in Oracle Server
Job Configuration in Backup Exec Server
Hi,
I have one master server and two media servers with the same versions bellow:
Windows 2012 R2 x64
NBU 7.6.0.4
When I try to logon NBU java admin console with "master server" in host name filed, it shows me this message "Unable to login, status: 509 - Can not execute program"
If a change host name to anyone media servers, it running normally, open media server.
Can anybody help?
Thanks.
We are looking at scripting the creation of job policies, since there is no API :(
We are running NBU 7.6.1 on RHEL 6.
It looks like simply coping the directory under <install_path>/db/class/ for a default policy and manually editing the clients, schedule, and include files is a pretty straight forward way to accomplish this. The only thing that concerns me is the VMD5_DIGEST line that is commented out. I did some googling and found an older article that described this line's importaince:
Another issue to be aware of is that many of NetBackup's configuration files now contain an MD5 signature. If you have scripts that edit configuration files directly, make sure these files don't contain an MD5 signature. (Look for a line that says #VMD5_DIGEST.) If they do, and you edit them without using a NetBackup command or the GUI - you'll render these files useless. For example, if you use vi or notepad to change any of the values in the file /usr/openv/netbackup/db/class/ /info, the policy in question will disappear from the NetBackup GUI and will no longer run. However, if you edited this file using a NetBackup command, it would be fine.
Src: http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/magazineConten...
Now the fact that it is commented out intrigued me so I decided to test this and It looks like coping the structure does in fact create a new policy and that policy is visable in the GUI.
Is there anything to be concerned with dealing with that line? I Just want to make sure it isn't being used for anything else behind the scnenes.
Thanks,
I have renewed all of my licenses for the Backup Exec 2014. When I try to "Add" the license via the Installation and Licensing and then Install Options and Licenses on this Backup Exec Server, I enter the Serial Number click on Add to List; then next etc... and when it Finishes, it says completed. I then go and look and the license is not there.
I have also tried to Import Symantec License File (I got the file from the email back from Symantec and I downloaded it from mysym account license portal and it says that the license file is invalid because there is not a valid serial number.
Now my backups have stopped working because the license has expired. What do I do?? Help!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks much
Cathy
ps: I have entered a support tech ticket with the License Support Customer Service but have not heard back from them.
Windows Server 2012 R2 host servers are members of a Server 2008 domain, hosted on of the servers. All guest VMs are Windows Server 2008 SP2. Backup Exec 2014 SP2 media servers are also on guest VMs, backups saved to local Backup to Disk drives in the virtual machines. Windows Agent installed and up to date on all host servers and guest VMs, Agent for Hyper-V is enabled. Backup targets are on different Hyper-V hosts. Hyper-V backups are set up individually for each VM though the Microsoft Hyper-V Host object. All Weekly Full backups run successfully, all Daily Differential backups fail with an exception now that I've turned off the option to "Use the full backup method for virtual machines that do not support incremental or differential backups". I don't have the space for a full backup every day.
Backup- VRTSRV::\\SRV0001G\Hyper-V?Virtual?Machine\SERVERABCD123
V-79-57344-38324 - Incremental\\Differential backup methods are not supported for this VM. The backup job failed, since the option 'to fall back to a full backup' was not selected.
My immediate question is, what is required for the VMs to support inc/diff backups, or looking at it the other way, what could make them incompatible? I am out of ideas. I have had a case open since last week, but the technicial keeps messaging me after I leave for the day, complaining that he cannot contact me!! I will repond to request for more information. Thank you!
Hi Guys..,
I need help....How to install Linux agent in linux server in backup exec 2014?
Hi,
Can somone tell me why reserved all available memory by the dlomaintsvcu.exe? Is there any way to set the max. RAM which can be used by this service?
According to the sys. req. 8GB should be enought... I have added more 8 GB to the server, but 16 GB was not enough for it, so i have duplicated the size again, (32 GB RAM in the server) and more than the 70% is used at this moment. The memory using is growing continous, so i suspect the 32 GB won`t be enough.
Thank you.
Joe

Hello,
I need help how to ensure that online backup of SAP will be finished as succesfull.
Error from Detailed Status: ERR - Lock file /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/dbext/logs/vxbsa.1424219427.2588762.files.3.lock is unlocked. Abort backup.
I found some similar issue and solutions but it didnt help:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...
I changed KEEP_LOGS_DAYS to 15 days but it didnt help.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...
Its strange that only this online backup running in 10 streams is failing, but not everytime all streams, sometime a few streams ended with RC 1.
There are also executed another backups (same policy and schedule) but only one file and such backups are still succesfully finished.
Backup master server and client is running on version 7.1.0.3
See attached bpbkar and backint logs, start Time of backup 1:31 , end time: about 3:50

Hello Experts,
I was changing global attributes in Master server properties. I came across
"Some Settings may not take effect until daemons or services are restarted nor will they
take effect on the currently active jobs or utilities"
1:- What are this services that gets restarted?
2:- Is such change recommended while backup jobs are running?
3:- How much time would they take to reflect the changes?
I've recently installed BE 2014 on a Win 2012R2 server. I tested the agent by running a backup on a single (separate) Windows server and it worked fine. I decided to try backing up the entire physical box, which consists of a couple of VMs and of course the ESXi instance as well. I did this by setting the backup job at the ESXI server level and letting it find the VMs in the datacentre, which it did. All looked well, until the first time the job ran.
It ran until it got about 29GB in (it shows it's working on the VMDK of the first server), and then it just sits there. It shows as active, and the program isn't frozen, but it makes no further progress. I actually let it run for days and nothing. I tried cancelling the job, and it shows as Active: Cancel Pending, and then never cancels. :-(
If I restart the process or the server, it obviously stops the job, but as soon as it comes back up it just tries to start it over again from scratch. A second attempt found it hanging at the same point (~29GB). I again couldn't cancel. I can't edit the job or remove the server, as the job shows as running.
The storage it's writing to is a NAS connected by iSCSI, and this is the only thing being written on it - it has TBs of room. The individual server backup completed successfully to it in my tests, and was larger than 29GB, so it doesn't seem like it should be anything to do with the sroage media.
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this? I'm obviously quite new to BE, so any advice is highly appreciated.
I recently started with a new company and inherited Backup Exec 2010 R3. There was a job that was on hold for awhile due to space issues, that I placed back into scheduling. Now it fails with "Filegroup backups can only be performed on databases configured to support Log backups". The link V-79-57344-37911 gives absolutly no direction. This used to work and nothing has changed on the SQL server, so I am not sure what to do. Yes, I can see the filegroups are checked, but again it used to work. The job contains Enterprise Vault and the SQL server used for it.
