Display Alert makes system 'hung til cleared'

I am using a tape drive that holds about 16 LTO tapes.

My issue is when I catalog a tape, sometimes the job will go on hold with an alert that it is looking for another tape.

Question:

How do I set these catalog jobs to automatically  cancel the job if not responded to in a certain period of time? (Othersise the tape machnie is unavailable to do nightly backups)
