Hello,
I have a few question regarding my current CASO setup in BE2014 which has been running for a two weeks now. I currently have two servers named BACKUP1 (CASO) and BACKUP2 (Managed). I think I would like to create a new VM CASO to manage BACKUP1 & BACKUP2. I currently have 25 jobs running live backups on the CASO to the BACKUP2 managed server. I still have 150 servers I need to migrate over from BE2010 to BE2014.
Questions
1) Will the new VM CASO (BACKUP3) need a lot of disk space regarding replicated catalogs? Or will the catalogs that are replicated between each managed server reside on BACKUP1 and BACKUP2? My current catalogs on BE2010 will have a similar setup exceot they are not using CASO. Catalogs are around 200 GB on one backup server and 300 GB on another server. So I'm thinking the new CASO VM server is going to at least need 500GB of space just for the replicated catalogs plus room to grow. Is that a correct assumption?
2) From some post I have read, I'm not 100% certain of the steps to Demote the current CASO.
- I'm guessing I would first build the new virtual server and install Backup Exec2014 on it and make it the CASO -named BACKUP3.
- Then go onto BACKUP1 and in BEUtility remove CASO from BACKUP1.
- Then run an install/repair on both BACKUP1 and BACKUP2 and point them to the new CASO BACKUP3
3) Should it be a pretty smooth operation? Or should I plan on having to recreate the current 25 running jobs and other items I have setup on BACKUP1 like definitions, media sets, error handling, etc.
I'm trying to think ahead if I should make the transistion to the new CASO server now, before I add the 150 servers to the backup process. Trying to minimize any forceable pain that could occur in creating a new CASO.
Thanks for any adivce!
